The NYYC successfully defended the America's Cup 25 times from 1851 until 1983, when it was finally defeated by the Royal Perth Yacht Club's Australia II. This 132-year winning streak is one of the longest in the history of sports.

Clubhouses

The New York Yacht Club's main clubhouse is located at 37 West 44th Street in Manhattan, New York City. Designed by the architectural firm Warren and Wetmore, the building was completed in 1901 and is noted for its Beaux-Arts style and nautical-themed interiors.

In addition to its Manhattan clubhouse, the NYYC operates a waterfront facility known as Harbour Court in Newport, Rhode Island. This facility hosts many of the club's sailing events and regattas.
