Newton County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, its population was 14,445. Its county seat is Newton. The county is named for John Newton, a veteran of the American Revolutionary War.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Newton County is located in the eastern part of Texas, bordering the state of Louisiana. The county has a total area of 940 square miles, of which 934 square miles is land and 6.4 square miles is water.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 14,445 people living in the county. The racial makeup of the county was 83.8% White, 11.9% Black or African American, 0.4% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.3% from other races, and 1.2% from two or more races. 4.8% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
