Nick Boynton

Nicholas Carl Boynton (born January 14, 1979) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player. He played as a defenceman in the National Hockey League (NHL) for several teams, including the Boston Bruins, Phoenix Coyotes, Chicago Blackhawks, Anaheim Ducks, and Philadelphia Flyers.

Early Life and Junior Career[edit | edit source]

Boynton was born in Nobleton, Ontario, Canada. He began his junior hockey career with the Ottawa 67's of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). During his time with the 67's, Boynton was known for his strong defensive play and leadership qualities. He was named the OHL's top defenceman in the 1998-99 season and helped lead the team to a Memorial Cup championship in 1999.

NHL Career[edit | edit source]

Boynton was drafted 21st overall by the Washington Capitals in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. However, he did not sign with the Capitals and re-entered the draft, where he was selected 32nd overall by the Boston Bruins in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

Boston Bruins[edit | edit source]

Boynton made his NHL debut with the Boston Bruins during the 1999-2000 NHL season. He quickly established himself as a reliable defenceman, known for his physical play and shot-blocking abilities. Boynton played with the Bruins until the end of the 2005-06 NHL season.

Phoenix Coyotes[edit | edit source]

In 2006, Boynton was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes. He continued to be a solid presence on the blue line and contributed both defensively and offensively.

Chicago Blackhawks[edit | edit source]

Boynton joined the Chicago Blackhawks in 2009. He was part of the team that won the Stanley Cup in 2010, marking the pinnacle of his career.

Anaheim Ducks and Philadelphia Flyers[edit | edit source]

After his stint with the Blackhawks, Boynton played for the Anaheim Ducks and Philadelphia Flyers before retiring from professional hockey in 2011.

Post-Retirement[edit | edit source]

Following his retirement, Boynton has been involved in various activities, including broadcasting and coaching. He has also been open about his struggles with mental health and has become an advocate for mental health awareness.
