Nobu Matsuhisa
Nobu Matsuhisa is a renowned Japanese chef and restaurateur known for his fusion cuisine blending traditional Japanese dishes with Peruvian ingredients. His signature dish is black cod in miso.
Early Life[edit | edit source]
Nobu Matsuhisa was born on March 10, 1949, in Saitama, Japan. After high school, he worked at the restaurant Matsue Sushi in Shinjuku, Tokyo, where he learned the art of sushi.
Career[edit | edit source]
In 1973, Nobu moved to Lima, Peru, where he opened his first restaurant, Matsuei. He spent three years in Peru, during which he developed his unique style of cuisine that combined Japanese and Peruvian influences.
In 1977, Nobu moved to Los Angeles and opened his restaurant, Matsuhisa. The restaurant quickly gained popularity and attracted the attention of Hollywood celebrities, including Robert De Niro, who proposed a business partnership to Nobu.
In 1994, Nobu and De Niro opened Nobu in New York City. The restaurant was a success and led to the opening of more Nobu restaurants around the world.
Nobu Restaurants[edit | edit source]
As of 2021, there are more than 40 Nobu Restaurants worldwide, including in cities such as London, Tokyo, and Las Vegas. Each restaurant features Nobu's signature dishes, as well as other Japanese and Peruvian fusion dishes.
Awards and Recognition[edit | edit source]
Nobu Matsuhisa has received numerous awards for his innovative cuisine. In 2002, he received the James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef: Pacific. His restaurants have also received several Michelin stars.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Nobu Matsuhisa is married to Yoko Matsuhisa. They have two children together.
