David Noel Redding (December 25, 1945 – May 11, 2003) was an English musician and songwriter best known as the bassist for the legendary rock band The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Born in Folkestone, England, Redding's musical career spanned from 1966 until his passing in 2003 in Clonakilty, Ireland.
Early Life and Career[edit | edit source]
Noel Redding was born on December 25, 1945, in Folkestone, England. He began his musical journey as a guitarist before transitioning to bass guitar. In 1966, Redding joined forces with Jimi Hendrix and Mitch Mitchell to form The Jimi Hendrix Experience, a band that would go on to achieve worldwide fame and critical acclaim.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience[edit | edit source]
As the bassist for The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Redding contributed to the band's groundbreaking sound, blending elements of rock music, blues rock, and psychedelic rock. The trio released three seminal albums, including Are You Experienced and Electric Ladyland, before disbanding in 1969.
Post-Experience Career[edit | edit source]
Following the dissolution of The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Redding pursued various musical projects, including forming the bands Fat Mattress and Road. He also released solo material and collaborated with other artists. In the 1970s, Redding formed The Noel Redding Band and continued to perform and record music until his untimely death in 2003.
