Noerine Kaleeba

Noerine Kaleeba is a Ugandan social worker, educator, and activist. She is best known for her work in the field of HIV/AIDS advocacy, particularly in Uganda and other parts of Africa. Kaleeba is the co-founder of The AIDS Support Organization (TASO), one of the largest non-governmental organizations in Uganda dedicated to providing care and support to people living with HIV/AIDS.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Kaleeba was born in Uganda and received her early education in the country. She later pursued higher education in the United Kingdom, where she studied social work and education. After completing her studies, she returned to Uganda and began her career as a social worker and educator.

Career[edit | edit source]

In the early 1980s, Kaleeba's husband contracted HIV/AIDS, which led her to become involved in advocacy work for people living with the disease. In 1987, she co-founded The AIDS Support Organization (TASO), which has since grown to become one of the largest NGOs in Uganda dedicated to providing care and support to people living with HIV/AIDS.

Kaleeba has also worked with several international organizations, including the United Nations and the World Health Organization, to promote HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention. She has been recognized for her work with numerous awards and honors.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Kaleeba is married and has children. She continues to live and work in Uganda, where she remains actively involved in HIV/AIDS advocacy.
