North Charleston is a city located in Charleston County, South Carolina, United States. It is the third-largest city in the state, with a population of 115,382 as of 2019. The city is situated within the Charleston-North Charleston-Summerville Metropolitan Statistical Area.

North Charleston was founded in 1972 and incorporated on June 12, 1972. It was created as a result of the consolidation of three separate communities: the city of North Charleston, the town of Hanahan, and the unincorporated areas of Charleston County. The city's rapid growth can be attributed to its strategic location and economic opportunities.
