Northport is a city located in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, United States. It is situated on the north bank of the Black Warrior River, opposite the city of Tuscaloosa. With a population of 25,506 as of 2020, Northport is the 21st largest city in Alabama.

Northport was founded in 1871 and incorporated on April 14, 1871. It was originally known as "Kentuck" due to its location in the state of Alabama. The name was later changed to Northport to avoid confusion with the state of Kentucky. The city experienced significant growth in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, thanks to the development of the railroad and the coal mining industry.
