Now Only
== Now Only ==
Now Only is the ninth studio album by American musician Mount Eerie, the musical project of Phil Elverum. It was released on March 16, 2018, through P.W. Elverum & Sun, Elverum's own record label. The album is a follow-up to the critically acclaimed A Crow Looked at Me and continues to explore themes of grief and loss.
Background[edit | edit source]
Now Only was written and recorded in the wake of the death of Elverum's wife, Geneviève Castrée, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2016. The album delves into Elverum's personal experiences and reflections on life, death, and the passage of time. It is characterized by its raw and intimate lyrical content, as well as its minimalist musical arrangements.
Composition[edit | edit source]
The album consists of six tracks, each blending elements of indie folk, lo-fi, and ambient music. Elverum's songwriting on Now Only is noted for its candid and unflinching portrayal of his emotional state. The instrumentation is sparse, often featuring just Elverum's voice and guitar, with occasional additional instrumentation.
