The construction of the OHSU Center for Health & Healing began in 2003 and was completed in 2006. The building was designed by Gerding Edlen and constructed by the Hoffman Construction Company. It was developed as part of the larger South Waterfront urban renewal project, which aimed to transform the area into a vibrant mixed-use community.
