Indacaterol

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

(Redirected from Onbrez)

Indacaterol is a bronchodilator used for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is a long-acting beta-adrenoceptor agonist (LABA) that helps to relax and open the airways to the lungs, making it easier to breathe.

Mechanism of Action[edit | edit source]

Indacaterol works by stimulating the beta-2 adrenergic receptors in the lungs, which causes relaxation of the smooth muscle in the airways. This allows the airways to open, making it easier for air to get in and out of the lungs.

Uses[edit | edit source]

Indacaterol is used to control and prevent symptoms such as wheezing and shortness of breath caused by COPD. It is not used to relieve sudden attacks of breathlessness and wheezing. If an attack occurs, a quick-relief inhaler (such as albuterol, salbutamol) should be used.

Side Effects[edit | edit source]

Common side effects of indacaterol include cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, headache, nausea, and diarrhea. Serious side effects are rare, but may include chest pain, fast or irregular heartbeat, muscle cramps, and tremors.

Precautions[edit | edit source]

Before using indacaterol, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to similar bronchodilators (such as formoterol, salmeterol); or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.

Interactions[edit | edit source]

Drug interactions may change how your medications work or increase your risk for serious side effects. This document does not contain all possible drug interactions. Keep a list of all the products you use (including prescription/nonprescription drugs and herbal products) and share it with your doctor and pharmacist.

Dosage[edit | edit source]

The dosage of indacaterol is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same time each day.
