The Oregon Wine Board was established to enhance the reputation and sales of Oregon wines both domestically and internationally.

History[edit | edit source]

The Oregon Wine Board was created in 2003 by the Oregon Legislature, replacing the Oregon Wine Advisory Board. The establishment of the board was part of a broader effort to support the growing wine industry in Oregon, which has become known for its high-quality Pinot Noir and other varietals.

Functions[edit | edit source]

The primary functions of the Oregon Wine Board include:

  • Marketing: Promoting Oregon wines through various marketing campaigns, events, and partnerships.
  • Research: Funding and conducting research to improve viticulture and winemaking practices in Oregon.
  • Education: Providing educational resources and training for winegrowers, winemakers, and consumers.

Oregon Wine Industry[edit | edit source]

Oregon is renowned for its diverse wine regions, including the Willamette Valley, Rogue Valley, and Columbia Gorge. The state's climate and soil conditions are particularly well-suited for growing Pinot Noir, but other varietals such as Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and Riesling are also produced.

Governance[edit | edit source]

The Oregon Wine Board is governed by a board of directors appointed by the Governor of Oregon. The board members represent various segments of the wine industry, including growers, winemakers, and industry professionals.

Events[edit | edit source]

The Oregon Wine Board organizes and participates in numerous events to promote Oregon wines, including:

  • Oregon Wine Symposium: An annual event that brings together industry professionals for education and networking.
  • Oregon Wine Month: A month-long celebration in May that highlights Oregon wines through tastings, promotions, and events.
