History[edit | edit source]

The Oromia Region was established in 1992 following the adoption of the new constitution of Ethiopia, which reorganized the country into ethnically-based regions. Historically, the Oromo people have inhabited the region for centuries, with a rich history of resistance and cultural preservation.

Oromia is the most populous region in Ethiopia, with an estimated population of 35 million people as of 2021. The majority of the population are Oromo, who speak the Oromo language, also known as Afaan Oromoo. The region is also home to other ethnic groups, including the Amhara, Gurage, and Somali.

Economy[edit | edit source]

The economy of Oromia is predominantly agricultural, with coffee being the most important cash crop. The region is known for producing high-quality coffee beans, which are exported worldwide. Other significant agricultural products include cereals, pulses, and livestock.
