Osakidetza is the Basque Health Service, a part of the Basque Government in Spain. It was established in 1983 to provide public health services to the Basque Country.

Osakidetza was created by the Basque Government in 1983, following the approval of the Statute of Autonomy of the Basque Country. The aim was to establish a public health service that would cater to the needs of the Basque Country.

Structure[edit | edit source]

Osakidetza is structured into seven health regions, each of which is further divided into health districts and primary care areas. The health regions are: Álava, Biscay, Gipuzkoa, High Deba, Bajo Bidasoa, Donostialdea, and Goierri-Alto Urola.

Services[edit | edit source]

Osakidetza provides a wide range of healthcare services, including primary care, specialist care, hospital care, and emergency care. It also offers preventive care and health promotion services.

Criticism[edit | edit source]

Osakidetza has faced criticism for alleged corruption and mismanagement. In 2018, several high-ranking officials were arrested on charges of fraud and embezzlement.
