• Osawatomie is a city in Miami County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 4,447. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The city's name is a blend of Osage and Pottawatomie.

History

• Osawatomie's name comes from a compound of the names of two Native American tribes that lived in the area, the Osage and Pottawatomie. The city was founded in 1854 and played a significant role in the pre-Civil War era as a center for abolitionist activity.
