Early Life[edit | edit source]
Ryder grew up in a family passionate about football, which played a crucial role in his early interest and development in the sport. He played junior football for the Port Adelaide Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) before being drafted into the AFL.
AFL Career[edit | edit source]
Ryder's AFL career began when he was drafted by the Essendon Football Club with the 7th overall pick in the 2005 AFL Draft. His debut season in 2006 showcased his potential as a ruckman and forward, positions he would excel in throughout his career.
Essendon Football Club[edit | edit source]
During his time at Essendon, Ryder became known for his athleticism, ruck work, and ability to impact the scoreboard. He was awarded the Anzac Medal in 2009 for his outstanding performance in the annual Anzac Day match against the Collingwood Football Club. His impact was immediate, strengthening Port Adelaide's ruck division and providing valuable experience to the team's midfield. Ryder's performances at Port Adelaide reaffirmed his status as one of the AFL's premier ruckmen, earning him All-Australian honors in 2017.
St Kilda Football Club[edit | edit source]
In 2019, Ryder joined the St Kilda Football Club, further extending his career and contributing to a new team environment. At St Kilda, he continued to play a key role, using his experience to mentor younger players while still competing at a high level on the field.
