Palatine refers to something of or relating to the palate. The term may also refer to several different concepts in anatomy, history, and geography.
Anatomy[edit | edit source]
In anatomy, the term "palatine" can refer to several structures:
- Palatine bone: One of two bones located at the roof of the mouth.
- Palatine process: A process of the maxillary bone that forms the anterior three quarters of the hard palate.
- Palatine gland: A group of salivary glands in the palate.
- Palatine uvula: A conical projection hanging down from the middle of the soft palate, known simply as the uvula.
- Palatine tonsil: One of the tonsils located on the left and right sides at the back of the throat.

In history, "palatine" can refer to:
- Count Palatine: A high-level official attached to imperial or royal courts in Europe since Roman times.
- County Palatine: Areas ruled by a count palatine, a title conferred by the monarch.

In geography, "palatine" can refer to:
- Palatine Hill: One of the seven hills of Rome, Italy.
- Palatinate (region): A region in southwestern Germany.
- Palatine, Illinois: A village in Cook County, Illinois, United States.
