Pandan, Catanduanes

Pandan, Catanduanes is a municipality in the province of Catanduanes, in the Bicol Region of the Philippines. It is located on the northern part of Catanduanes Island and is known for its rich natural resources and scenic tourist spots.

The municipality of Pandan was established in the early 17th century by Spanish missionaries. The name "Pandan" is derived from the local term for the pandanus plant, a common tropical plant in the area.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Pandan is located on the northern part of Catanduanes Island. It is bordered by the municipalities of Bagamanoc to the east, Caramoran to the south, and the Maqueda Channel to the west. The municipality has a total land area of 96.82 square kilometers.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

As of the 2015 census, Pandan has a population of 34,333 people. The majority of the population speaks Bicolano, with a significant number also speaking Tagalog and English.

Economy[edit | edit source]

The economy of Pandan is primarily based on agriculture, with rice, corn, and coconut as the main crops. Fishing is also a significant source of livelihood for many residents. In recent years, tourism has also become an important part of the local economy, with visitors drawn to the area's beautiful beaches and natural attractions.

Pandan is home to several tourist attractions, including the Hiyop Highlands, a popular spot for hiking and bird-watching, and the Cagnipa Rolling Hills, known for their stunning panoramic views. The municipality also boasts beautiful beaches such as the Tuwad-Tuwadan Blue Lagoon and the Carangyan Beach.

Pandan has several public and private schools offering elementary and secondary education. The municipality is also home to the Catanduanes State University - Pandan Campus, which offers various undergraduate and graduate programs.

Infrastructure[edit | edit source]

The municipality is served by the Pandan Bay Port, which provides ferry services to the mainland Bicol Region. It also has a network of roads connecting it to other municipalities on the island.
