Parkhead Hospital was a mental health facility located on Salamanca Street in Parkhead, Glasgow, Scotland. It was managed by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
History[edit | edit source]
Parkhead Hospital was opened in April 1989 by the Princess of Wales, replacing the mental health functions of Duke Street Hospital and Gartloch Hospital. The hospital was built on land previously occupied by the William Beardmore and Company steelworks. However, the hospital had structural deficiencies, including a lack of privacy in the bedrooms.
In February 2018, services were transferred to Stobhill Hospital and Parkhead Hospital was closed. In October 2019, it was announced that a new health hub would be built on the site by BAM Construction, bringing together various community health services.
