Paul John (whisky)
Paul John (whisky)[edit | edit source]
Paul John is a single malt whisky produced in Goa, India by John Distilleries. The company was established in 1992 by Paul P. John, an Indian entrepreneur with a passion for high-quality spirits. The whisky is named after its founder and is known for its distinct character and smooth taste.
History[edit | edit source]
John Distilleries was initially known for producing other spirits, including brandy and rum. However, in 2008, the company decided to venture into the production of single malt whisky, resulting in the creation of Paul John whisky. The first bottles of Paul John were released in the UK in 2012, and the brand has since gained international recognition.
Production[edit | edit source]
Paul John whisky is made from Indian malted barley and is aged in charred American oak barrels. The whisky is distilled in traditional copper pot stills, similar to the method used in Scotland. The tropical climate of Goa accelerates the maturation process, resulting in a whisky with a unique flavor profile.
Varieties[edit | edit source]
There are several expressions of Paul John whisky, each with its own unique characteristics. These include:
- Paul John Brilliance: An unpeated whisky with notes of tropical fruits and honey.
- Paul John Edited: A lightly peated whisky with a balance of spice and sweet notes.
- Paul John Bold: A heavily peated whisky with a smoky flavor profile.
- Paul John Select Cask: A series of whiskies aged in selected casks for a richer flavor.
Awards and Recognition[edit | edit source]
Paul John whisky has received numerous awards and accolades for its quality and flavor. These include gold medals at the World Whisky Awards and the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, among others.
