Early Life

Paul Newman was born in Shaker Heights, Ohio, to Theresa Garth and Arthur Sigmund Newman. He showed an early interest in theater and performed in school plays. After graduating from high school, he attended Ohio University but later transferred to the Yale School of Drama.

Career

Newman's acting career began in the late 1940s with stage performances. He made his Broadway debut in 1953 in the play Picnic. His film debut came in 1954 with The Silver Chalice. He gained widespread recognition with his role in Somebody Up There Likes Me (1956).
