Peace
Peace is a concept of societal friendship and harmony in the absence of hostility and violence. In a social sense, peace is commonly used to mean a lack of conflict (such as war) and freedom from fear of violence between individuals or groups. Throughout history, leaders have used peacemaking and diplomacy to establish a certain type of behavioral restraint that has resulted in the establishment of regional peace or economic growth through various forms of agreements or peace treaties. Such behavioral restraint has often resulted in the reduction of conflicts, greater economic interaction, and consequently substantial prosperity.
Definition[edit | edit source]
The term peace can refer to a state of mind, a disposition for benevolence, confidence, and justice. It is a state of tranquility or quiet, freedom from civil disturbance. Peace also suggests the existence of healthy or newly healed interpersonal or international relationships, prosperity in matters of social or economic welfare, the establishment of equality, and a working political order that serves the true interests of all.
Types of Peace[edit | edit source]
There are different types of peace, including Negative peace and Positive peace. Negative peace refers to the absence of violence. Positive peace is filled with positive content such as restoration of relationships, the creation of social systems that serve the needs of the whole population and the constructive resolution of conflict.
