Pecan Lodge
Pecan Lodge[edit | edit source]
Pecan Lodge is a renowned barbecue restaurant located in the Deep Ellum neighborhood of Dallas, Texas. Known for its authentic Texas barbecue, Pecan Lodge has become a staple in the Dallas culinary scene, attracting both locals and tourists with its smoked meats and traditional Southern sides.
History[edit | edit source]
Pecan Lodge was founded by Justin and Diane Fourton in 2010. Originally starting as a small stall at the Dallas Farmers Market, the restaurant quickly gained popularity due to its flavorful and tender barbecue offerings. The name "Pecan Lodge" is inspired by the Fourton family's ranch in Abilene, Texas, where pecan trees are abundant.
In 2014, due to increasing demand and long lines at the Farmers Market, Pecan Lodge moved to a larger location in Deep Ellum. This move allowed the restaurant to expand its seating capacity and offer a more extensive menu.
Menu[edit | edit source]
Pecan Lodge is celebrated for its smoked meats, which are cooked using traditional methods over a wood fire. The menu features a variety of barbecue staples, including brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and sausage. One of the signature dishes is "The Hot Mess," a sweet potato topped with barbacoa, cheese, and chipotle cream.
In addition to meats, Pecan Lodge offers a selection of Southern-inspired sides such as mac and cheese, collard greens, and fried okra. The restaurant also serves homemade desserts, including banana pudding and peach cobbler.
Cooking Techniques[edit | edit source]
The barbecue at Pecan Lodge is prepared using a combination of post oak and mesquite wood, which imparts a distinct smoky flavor to the meats. The cooking process involves slow smoking the meats for several hours, ensuring tenderness and depth of flavor. The brisket, a customer favorite, is smoked for up to 18 hours.
Recognition[edit | edit source]
Pecan Lodge has received numerous accolades for its barbecue, including being named one of the "Top 50 Barbecue Joints" by Texas Monthly. The restaurant has also been featured in various food and travel publications, highlighting its contribution to the Texas barbecue tradition.
Community Involvement[edit | edit source]
Pecan Lodge is actively involved in the local community, participating in charity events and supporting local farmers and suppliers. The restaurant emphasizes sustainability and sources its ingredients from local producers whenever possible.
