Peeling
Peeling is a process that involves the removal of the outermost layer of an organism, particularly the skin. In humans, peeling can occur naturally, such as after a sunburn, or it can be induced, such as through the use of chemical peels in cosmetic procedures.
Causes[edit | edit source]
Peeling can be caused by a variety of factors. These include:
- Sunburn: Overexposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays can cause the skin to burn and subsequently peel.
- Skin conditions: Certain skin conditions, such as psoriasis and eczema, can cause the skin to peel.
- Chemical peels: These cosmetic procedures involve the application of a chemical solution to the skin, which causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off.
Treatment[edit | edit source]
Treatment for peeling skin depends on the underlying cause. For sunburn, it is recommended to apply a moisturizer and avoid further sun exposure. For skin conditions, a dermatologist may prescribe topical creams or ointments. For peeling caused by chemical peels, it is important to follow the aftercare instructions provided by the dermatologist or aesthetician.
