Pepero


Pepero is a popular snack food produced by Lotte Confectionery in South Korea. It is a stick-shaped biscuit covered in chocolate, and is often consumed on Pepero Day, a commercial holiday in South Korea.

Pepero was first introduced by Lotte Confectionery in 1983. The snack was inspired by the Pocky snack from Japan, which was first produced in 1966. The name "Pepero" comes from the Korean word for "thin", reflecting the snack's slender shape.

Varieties[edit | edit source]

There are several varieties of Pepero available, including Almond Pepero, Nude Pepero (which has the chocolate on the inside of the biscuit stick), and Peanut Pepero. Each variety has a different flavor and texture, but all are based on the original Pepero design of a chocolate-covered biscuit stick.

Pepero Day[edit | edit source]

Pepero Day is celebrated on November 11 each year in South Korea. The date was chosen because the number "11/11" resembles four sticks of Pepero. The day is marked by exchanging boxes of Pepero with friends and loved ones, in a manner similar to Valentine's Day.

Health concerns[edit | edit source]

Like many snack foods, Pepero is high in sugar and fat, and is not considered a healthy food. However, it is enjoyed as a treat and is not intended to be a staple part of the diet.
