The Peroneal Vein (also known as fibular vein) is a vein in the lower leg that drains the lateral compartment of the leg and foot. It is a paired vein, with one vein accompanying each peroneal artery.

Anatomy[edit | edit source]

The peroneal vein originates in the foot, where it drains the lateral compartment of the leg and foot. It ascends along the fibula, receiving tributaries from the muscles of the lateral compartment of the leg. It then joins the posterior tibial vein to form the popliteal vein.

Clinical Significance[edit | edit source]

The peroneal vein is clinically significant as it is a common site for the formation of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). DVT in the peroneal vein can lead to pulmonary embolism, a serious and potentially life-threatening condition.
