Perry County, Mississippi[edit | edit source]

Perry County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of the 2010 census, the population was 12,250. The county seat is New Augusta. Perry County is named for the War of 1812 naval hero, Oliver Hazard Perry.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Perry County is located in the southeastern portion of Mississippi and is completely within the Pine Belt region. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 650 square miles, of which 647 square miles is land and 3.2 square miles is water.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 12,250 people living in the county. The racial makeup of the county was 77.1% White, 21.1% Black, 0.4% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, and 0.9% from two or more races. 1.2% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
