Perth; Gaelic: Peairt) is a city in central Scotland, located on the banks of the River Tay. It is the administrative centre of Perth and Kinross council area and the historic county town of Perthshire. Perth is known as the "Gateway to the Highlands" due to its strategic location.

Perth has a rich history dating back over 800 years. It was granted Royal burgh status in 1210 by King William the Lion. The city played a significant role in the Wars of Scottish Independence and was a frequent residence of the Scottish monarchy. The Treaty of Perth in 1266 ended the conflict between Scotland and Norway over the Hebrides.

Perth is situated on the banks of the River Tay, which is the longest river in Scotland. The city is surrounded by picturesque countryside, including the Ochil Hills to the south and the Grampian Mountains to the north. The Scone Palace, located just outside the city, is a major historical site where Scottish kings were traditionally crowned.
