Peter Dinklage

Peter Dinklage (born June 11, 1969) is an American actor and producer. He gained international recognition and acclaim for his role as Tyrion Lannister on the HBO television series Game of Thrones (2011–2019), for which he won four Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Peter Hayden Dinklage was born in Morristown, New Jersey, and grew up in Brookside, New Jersey. He was born with achondroplasia, a common form of dwarfism. Dinklage attended the Delbarton School, a Catholic preparatory school for boys, where he developed an interest in acting. He later graduated from Bennington College in 1991 with a degree in drama.

Early Career[edit | edit source]

Dinklage's first film role was in the 1995 comedy-drama Living in Oblivion. He played a frustrated actor with dwarfism who complains about his clichéd roles. His performance was well-received, and it helped him secure more roles in independent films.

Breakthrough and Game of Thrones[edit | edit source]

Dinklage's breakthrough came with the 2003 film The Station Agent, where he played the lead role of Finbar McBride. His performance earned him critical acclaim and several awards. However, it was his role as Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones that brought him widespread fame. The series, based on George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels, became a global phenomenon, and Dinklage's portrayal of Tyrion was particularly praised for its depth and complexity.

After Game of Thrones, Dinklage continued to work in both film and television. He starred in the 2018 film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, which received critical acclaim. He also voiced characters in animated films such as The Angry Birds Movie and The Croods: A New Age.

Dinklage married theater director Erica Schmidt in 2005. The couple has two children. Despite his fame, Dinklage is known for being private about his personal life.

Dinklage is an advocate for animal rights and has been a vegetarian since childhood. He has worked with organizations such as PETA to promote animal welfare.
