Philippe Etchebest is a renowned French chef and television personality. He was born on November 2, 1966, in Soissons, France. Etchebest is best known for his appearances on various culinary television shows, including Cauchemar en cuisine and Top Chef.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Etchebest was born into a family with a strong culinary background. His father was a chef, and his mother was a restaurateur. He began his culinary education at the age of 15, attending the Bordeaux Hotel School.
Career[edit | edit source]
After completing his education, Etchebest worked in various restaurants across France, honing his skills and developing his unique culinary style. He gained recognition for his work at the Château Grand Barrail in Saint-Emilion, where he was awarded his first Michelin Star.
In 2000, Etchebest opened his own restaurant, Hostellerie de Plaisance, in Saint-Emilion. The restaurant quickly gained acclaim and was awarded two Michelin Stars.
Etchebest's television career began in 2011 when he started hosting Cauchemar en cuisine, the French version of Kitchen Nightmares. He also became a judge on the French cooking competition show Top Chef in 2015.
Awards and Recognition[edit | edit source]
Etchebest has received numerous awards throughout his career. In 2000, he was named Meilleur Ouvrier de France (Best Craftsman of France) in the cuisine-gastronomy category. He also received the Chevalier de l'Ordre du Mérite Agricole (Knight of the Order of Agricultural Merit) in 2003 and the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) in 2016.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Etchebest is married to Dominique Etchebest, and they have one son. He is also a former rugby player and a fan of the Union Bordeaux Bègles rugby team.
