Pike County, Indiana

Pike County is a county located in the U.S. state of Indiana. As of the 2010 census, the population was 12,845. The county seat is Petersburg. Pike County is the smallest county in terms of land area in Indiana, encompassing 341 square miles.

Pike County is located in the southwestern part of Indiana and is bordered by Gibson County to the west, Warrick and Spencer counties to the south, Dubois County to the east, and Daviess and Knox counties to the north.

History[edit | edit source]

Pike County was formed in 1817 from Gibson and Perry counties. It was named for Zebulon Pike, famous for Pike's Peak in Colorado.

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 12,845 people, 5,149 households, and 3,677 families residing in the county.
