Pixar Animation Studios, commonly known as Pixar, is an American computer animation studio known for its critically and commercially successful animated feature films. It is based in Emeryville, California, and has been a subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios since 2006.

Pixar originated in the 1970s as part of the Lucasfilm computer division, known as the Graphics Group, before its spin-off as a corporation in 1986 with funding by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who became its majority shareholder. The studio created the first ever computer-animated feature film, Toy Story (1995), which was a massive success and revolutionized the animation industry.
Following Toy Story, Pixar released a series of successful films such as A Bug's Life, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles.
