Plousard

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Ploussard (also known as Plousard) is a red grape variety that is primarily grown in the Jura region of France. It is known for producing light, aromatic wines with a distinctive "rustic" character.

History[edit | edit source]

The origins of Ploussard are not well-documented, but it is believed to have been cultivated in the Jura region for several centuries. The grape is often confused with Poulsard, another red grape variety from the same region, due to the similarity in their names. However, they are distinct varieties with different characteristics.

Viticulture[edit | edit source]

Ploussard is a late-ripening grape that requires a long growing season to fully develop its flavors. It is highly susceptible to various vine diseases, including powdery mildew and botrytis cinerea, which can significantly affect the quality and yield of the grapes.

Wine production[edit | edit source]

Ploussard wines are typically light in color, with a delicate aroma of red fruits and spices. They are often vinified as rosé wines, but can also be used to produce red wines and sparkling wines. The wines are usually consumed young, but some examples can age well for several years.

Food pairing[edit | edit source]

Due to their light body and high acidity, Ploussard wines are versatile food wines. They pair well with a variety of dishes, including poultry, seafood, and vegetarian dishes. They are also commonly served with local Jura specialties, such as Comté cheese and sausages.
