Polymelus
Polymelus[edit | edit source]
Polymelus was a British Thoroughbred racehorse who had a successful racing career in the early 20th century. He was foaled in 1902 and was bred by Sir John Thursby. Polymelus was sired by Cyllene, a prominent stallion known for producing successful racehorses.
Racing Career[edit | edit source]
Polymelus had a remarkable racing career, winning several prestigious races. He made his debut as a two-year-old in 1904 and quickly established himself as a promising racehorse. In 1905, he won the Epsom Derby, one of the most prestigious races in the British racing calendar. This victory solidified his reputation as a top-class racehorse.
In the same year, Polymelus also won the Eclipse Stakes and the St. Leger Stakes, further cementing his status as one of the best racehorses of his time. His success on the racecourse earned him a place in the history books and made him a highly sought-after stallion for breeding.
Breeding Career[edit | edit source]
After retiring from racing, Polymelus had a successful career as a stallion. He sired several notable offspring, many of whom went on to achieve success on the racecourse. One of his most famous progeny was Pommern, who won the Epsom Derby in 1915.
Polymelus' influence as a sire extended beyond his immediate offspring. His bloodline can be traced through many generations, and his descendants have continued to achieve success in racing. His influence can still be seen in the pedigrees of modern Thoroughbreds.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Polymelus' success as both a racehorse and a sire earned him a place in the history of Thoroughbred racing. His victories in prestigious races and his influential breeding career have solidified his status as one of the greats of the sport.
In recognition of his achievements, Polymelus was inducted into the British Racing Hall of Fame. His legacy continues to be celebrated by racing enthusiasts and breeders alike.
