The original hospital was situated between East 70th and 71st Streets, and Madison and Park Avenues. Over the years, the hospital underwent continuous expansion, adding an outpatient dispensary in 1888, a school of nursing in 1892, and additional beds and services in subsequent years.

In 1998, Presbyterian Hospital merged with New York Hospital to form New York Presbyterian Hospital.

History: Presbyterian Hospital was established by James Lenox in 1868 and started functioning in 1872. The hospital was designed by Richard Morris Hunt. During various wars, including the Spanish-American War, World War I, and World War II, the hospital operated military wards and overseas hospital bases.

In 1910, Presbyterian Hospital became affiliated with Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons and other hospitals and institutes in Manhattan. One of its notable affiliations was with the Sloane Hospital for Women, an obstetrics and gynecology hospital founded in 1886. The hospital also had affiliations with the Vanderbilt Clinic, Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, and the Neurological Institute.

Presbyterian Hospital played a significant role in providing healthcare services in New York City until its merger with New York Hospital in 1998.
