Primanti Brothers
Primanti Brothers is a chain of sandwich shops in the United States. The original shop is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is renowned for its unique sandwich, often referred to as the "Pittsburgh Sandwich". This sandwich is distinctive because it includes French fries and coleslaw directly on the sandwich, rather than on the side.
History[edit | edit source]
The first Primanti Brothers restaurant was established in 1933 in the Strip District of Pittsburgh by brothers Joe, Dick, and Stanley Primanti. The brothers initially started their business as a cart selling sandwiches to truckers and workers in the Strip District. In 1975, the business was sold to Jim Patrinos, who has since expanded the chain to over 30 locations across Pennsylvania and several other states.
Menu[edit | edit source]
The signature item on the Primanti Brothers menu is the "Pittsburgh Sandwich". This sandwich is typically made with grilled meat, an Italian dressing-based coleslaw, tomato slices, and French fries, all between two pieces of Italian bread. The restaurant also offers a variety of other sandwiches, pizzas, wings, and salads.
Reception[edit | edit source]
Primanti Brothers has received both local and national recognition for its unique sandwich. It has been featured on several food television shows, including Man v. Food and Food Paradise. Despite its popularity, the sandwich has also been the subject of some controversy due to its high calorie content.
