Princess Louise Eleonore of Hohenlohe-Langenburg (11 August 1763 – 30 April 1837) was a member of the House of Hohenlohe and by marriage Duchess of Saxe-Meiningen. She played a significant role in the administration of the Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen during the minority of her son, Bernhard II, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Princess Louise Eleonore was born in Langenburg, a town in the Holy Roman Empire, to Christian Albert, Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg and Princess Caroline of Stolberg-Gedern. She was raised in a noble family with strong ties to other European royal families.

Marriage and Issue[edit | edit source]

On 27 November 1782, she married George I, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen. The couple had three children:

Regency[edit | edit source]

After the death of her husband in 1803, Louise Eleonore acted as regent for her son, Bernhard II, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen, who was still a minor. She managed the affairs of the duchy with great skill and dedication, ensuring the stability and prosperity of the region during a turbulent period in European history.

Later Life and Death[edit | edit source]

Princess Louise Eleonore continued to be an influential figure in the duchy even after her son reached adulthood. She passed away on 30 April 1837 in Meiningen, leaving behind a legacy of effective leadership and devotion to her family and subjects.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Princess Louise Eleonore is remembered for her regency and the significant impact she had on the Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen. Her descendants continued to play important roles in European history, particularly through her daughter Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen.
