'Prunus domestica, commonly known as the European plum, is a species of flowering plant in the family Rosaceae, native to Europe and Asia. It is widely cultivated for its fruit, the plum, which is a type of drupe. The tree is medium-sized, typically reaching heights of 5–6 meters, with a spreading canopy that provides shade. The leaves are deciduous, oval to oblong, and the flowers, which appear early in spring before the leaves, are white or lightly pink and very fragrant. Prunus domestica trees are deciduous, with a medium growth rate, and can reach heights of 5–6 meters. The bark is dark and ridged, and the branches spread out to form a rounded canopy. The leaves are simple, oval to oblong, 4–6 cm long, with serrate margins. The flowers are 1–2 cm in diameter, with five petals, and are borne in early spring. They are usually white, sometimes with a hint of pink. The fruit, or plum, follows the flowers, maturing in late summer to early autumn. Plums are drupes, with a large stone, surrounded by soft, juicy flesh. The skin color can range from yellow to green, red, or purple, depending on the variety.
