Queen's Wood is an ancient woodland located in Haringey, Greater London. Covering an area of 52 acres, it is one of four ancient woodlands in the borough, the others being Highgate Wood, Coldfall Wood, and Bluebell Wood.

History[edit | edit source]

Queen's Wood was originally part of the Great Forest of Middlesex, a vast expanse of woodland that covered much of the area during the Middle Ages. The wood was known as Churchyard Bottom Wood until 1898 when it was renamed in honor of Queen Victoria.

Flora and Fauna[edit | edit source]

The woodland is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. The dominant tree species include oak, hornbeam, and beech. The understorey is rich with holly, hazel, and hawthorn. In the spring, the woodland floor is carpeted with bluebells, wood anemones, and wild garlic.

The wood supports a variety of wildlife, including birds such as the great spotted woodpecker, nuthatch, and treecreeper. Mammals like the fox, hedgehog, and various species of bat can also be found here.

Management[edit | edit source]

Queen's Wood is managed by the London Borough of Haringey with the aim of preserving its natural state while making it accessible to the public. Conservation efforts focus on maintaining the health of the woodland and protecting its biodiversity.

Facilities[edit | edit source]

The wood features several walking trails, a children's playground, and a café located in the former lodge. There are also educational programs and guided walks organized to promote awareness of the woodland's ecological importance.
