Early Life[edit | edit source]

Tarantino was raised by his mother, Connie McHugh, in the Los Angeles area. His love for movies was evident from a young age, spending much of his time at local movie theaters. He worked at a video rental store in Manhattan Beach, California, where he would discuss cinema with his customers and colleagues, further honing his knowledge of film.

His next film, Pulp Fiction (1994), was a critical and commercial success, winning the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and earning him an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

Following the success of Pulp Fiction, Tarantino directed a series of successful films including Jackie Brown (1997), an adaptation of Elmore Leonard's novel Rum Punch; the two-part martial arts film Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003) and Kill Bill: Volume 2 (2004); the grindhouse homage Death Proof (2007) as part of the double feature with Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror; the World War II film Inglourious Basterds (2009); the slave revenge tale Django Unchained (2012), for which he won his second Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay; and the post-Civil War western The Hateful Eight (2015).
