Radruż

Radruż is a small village located in the administrative district of Gmina Lubaczów, within Lubaczów County, Subcarpathian Voivodeship, in south-eastern Poland. It is situated near the border with Ukraine, approximately 14 kilometers east of Lubaczów and 96 kilometers east of the regional capital Rzeszów.

History[edit | edit source]

Radruż has a rich history that dates back to the 14th century. It was first mentioned in historical documents in 1366. The village was part of the Ruthenian Voivodeship of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth until the Partitions of Poland in the late 18th century.

Radruż Iconostasis[edit | edit source]

One of the most significant landmarks in Radruż is the Orthodox Church of the Holy Spirit. The church is famous for its beautiful and unique iconostasis, which is considered one of the most valuable in Poland. The iconostasis was created in the 17th century and is a masterpiece of the Ruthenian school of icon painting.

Radruż UNESCO World Heritage Site[edit | edit source]

The Orthodox Church of the Holy Spirit in Radruż, along with several other wooden churches in the region, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2013. These churches represent the cultural heritage of the Carpathian region and are an excellent example of the Wooden Churches of the Carpathian Region.
