Introduction[edit | edit source]

Rainforest Cafe is a themed restaurant chain owned by Landry's, Inc. of Houston. It was founded by Steven Schussler. The first location opened in the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota on February 3, 1994. By 1997, the chain consisted of six restaurants, all in the United States. The company was bought by Landry's Restaurants Inc. in 2000.

Concept and Design[edit | edit source]

The Rainforest Cafe is known for its exciting and adventurous concept. The restaurants are designed to depict some features of a tropical rainforest, including plant growth, mist, waterfalls, and figures of rainforest animals, including elephants, frogs, gorillas, jaguars, tigers, and tropical birds. The restaurants also include a retail area, named the "Retail Village", selling themed merchandise.

Rainforest Cafe has many locations worldwide. In the United States, the cafe is located in several states including Arizona, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, Nevada, Tennessee, and Texas. Internationally, the cafe has locations in Canada, France, United Kingdom, Japan, China, and the United Arab Emirates.

The Rainforest Cafe offers a variety of food options. The menu includes a range of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers, seafood, steaks, chicken, pasta, and desserts. The restaurant also offers a kids' menu and a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Rainforest Cafe and Conservation[edit | edit source]

Rainforest Cafe is involved in conservation efforts. The restaurant chain has a program called the "Wild Bunch", which is aimed at educating children about the environment and conservation. The company also supports the Rainforest Foundation, an organization working to protect the world's rainforests.
