Ralphs is a major supermarket chain in the Southern California area and the largest subsidiary of Cincinnati-based Kroger. It is the oldest such chain west of the Mississippi River. Ralphs also operates stores under the Food 4 Less and Foods Co. names in California.

Ralphs was founded in 1873 by George Albert Ralphs and his brother, Walter Benjamin Ralphs. The original store was located at Sixth and Spring Streets in Los Angeles, California. The company incorporated in 1909 and by 1928, had 10 stores and moved to a new headquarters in Los Angeles.
Operations[edit | edit source]
Ralphs Grocery Company has contracts with warehouse and distribution centers throughout Southern California to supply the many Ralphs supermarkets in the region. The company also operates several distribution centers in the Los Angeles area.
Products and Services[edit | edit source]
Ralphs offers a variety of products, including fresh produce, meat and seafood, bakery items, dairy, frozen foods, and non-food items. The stores also offer services such as pharmacies, floral departments, and a variety of banking services.
Community Involvement[edit | edit source]
Ralphs is involved in the communities it serves through the Ralphs Community Contribution Program. The program contributes to local schools, churches and other non-profit organizations.
