Red Bull RB11 was a Formula One racing car designed and built by Red Bull Racing for the 2015 Formula One season. It was driven by Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat. The RB11 was notable for its innovative design and the use of a camouflage livery during pre-season testing, which attracted significant attention.

Development and Design[edit | edit source]

The Red Bull RB11 was developed under the leadership of chief technical officer Adrian Newey. The car featured a Renault power unit, branded as TAG Heuer due to sponsorship agreements. The RB11 incorporated several aerodynamic changes in response to regulation adjustments and aimed to improve upon the performance issues faced by its predecessor, the Red Bull RB10.

One of the key design features of the RB11 was its nose design, which was adapted to meet the revised regulations for 2015, aiming for better aerodynamic efficiency. The car also featured a tightly packaged rear end, which was designed to enhance airflow around the back of the car, including the diffuser area.

Performance[edit | edit source]

The RB11's performance throughout the 2015 Formula One season was a mix of highs and lows. The car showed competitive pace in certain conditions, but the team struggled with reliability issues and the performance of the Renault power unit. Despite these challenges, Ricciardo and Kvyat managed to secure several podium finishes over the course of the season.

The car's best result came at the Hungarian Grand Prix, where Kvyat finished in second place, marking his first podium finish in Formula One. Ricciardo also secured a podium finish in the same race, coming in third.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

The Red Bull RB11 is remembered for its distinctive camouflage livery used during pre-season testing, which was intended to make it more difficult for rivals to discern the car's aerodynamic details. This livery became a fan favorite and was a unique marketing move by the team.

The RB11 laid the groundwork for its successors, with the team taking lessons from its design and performance to improve in subsequent seasons. The development of the RB11 contributed to the evolution of Red Bull Racing's design philosophy, particularly in terms of aerodynamic efficiency and power unit integration.
