Red Earth, known in Japan as War-Zard, is a fighting game developed and published by Capcom. Released in 1996, it was the first game to use the CP System III hardware, which allowed for more detailed graphics and animations in arcade games. Red Earth is notable for its unique RPG elements, allowing players to gain experience and level up their characters.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Red Earth combines traditional fighting game mechanics with elements of role-playing games. Players choose from one of four characters, each with their own unique storyline and set of moves. As players progress through the game, their character can level up, enhancing their abilities and unlocking new moves. The game features a boss battle at the end of each level, with each boss requiring different strategies to defeat.

Characters[edit | edit source]

The game includes four main characters:

  • Leo - A king transformed into a lion-like beast who seeks to reclaim his throne.
  • Kenji - A ninja who is on a quest to defeat a powerful enemy that has corrupted his clan.
  • Mai-Ling - A martial artist who fights to protect her village from evil forces.
  • Tessa - A sorceress researching the supernatural forces causing chaos in the world.

Development and Release[edit | edit source]

Developed by Capcom, Red Earth was one of the earlier games to use the CP System III arcade hardware, which allowed for more sophisticated graphics and detailed animations. The game was released primarily in Japan and has a cult following due to its unique gameplay and RPG elements.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Red Earth has been recognized for its innovative blend of fighting and RPG elements, which was unusual for arcade games of its time. Although it did not receive widespread distribution outside of Japan, it remains a beloved title among Capcom's classic arcade offerings.
