Redskins (confectionery)

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Redskins (confectionery) is a popular confectionery product manufactured by Nestlé. Originally produced in Australia, Redskins are chewy, raspberry-flavored candies that have gained popularity in various parts of the world.

History[edit | edit source]

Redskins were first introduced in the 1960s by Hoadley's Chocolates, a Melbourne-based confectionery company. In 1972, Hoadley's was acquired by Rowntree's, a British confectionery company, which was subsequently taken over by Nestlé in 1988. Despite these changes in ownership, the production of Redskins continued uninterrupted.

Product Description[edit | edit source]

Redskins are elongated, chewy candies with a bright red color, which is where they derive their name. They are known for their intense raspberry flavor and their tendency to stick to teeth due to their chewy texture. The candies are individually wrapped in wax paper, making them easy to carry and consume on the go.

Controversy[edit | edit source]

The name 'Redskins' has been a subject of controversy due to its racial undertones. In response to this, Nestlé announced in 2020 that it would rename the product, in line with its commitment to not marginalize any racial or cultural group.
