Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is an American biotechnology company that specializes in the development of pharmaceutical products for the treatment of serious medical conditions. The company was founded in 1988 and is headquartered in Tarrytown, New York.

Regeneron was founded by Leonard S. Schleifer, a neurologist and professor at the Cornell University Medical College, and his student, George D. Yancopoulos. The company was initially focused on neurotrophic factors and their regenerative capabilities, hence the name "Regeneron".

Products and Research[edit | edit source]

Regeneron has developed and commercialized medicines for the treatment of eye diseases, high cholesterol, cancer, and inflammatory conditions. Some of its most notable products include Eylea, an injection for the treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration, and Praluent, a treatment for high cholesterol.

In 2020, Regeneron gained significant attention for its work on a COVID-19 treatment. The company developed an antibody cocktail known as REGN-COV2, which was granted emergency use authorization by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Over the years, Regeneron has entered into several strategic partnerships and collaborations. Notably, it has a long-standing collaboration with Sanofi, a French multinational pharmaceutical company. This partnership has resulted in the development of several drugs, including Dupixent, a treatment for atopic dermatitis.

Regeneron has been recognized for its commitment to scientific innovation. The company was named the #1 Biopharmaceutical Employer by Science magazine in 2015 and 2016.
