Reyka

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Reyka is a brand of vodka that is distilled and produced in Iceland. The name "Reyka" derives from the Icelandic word for "smoke". The vodka is crafted with a process that reflects Iceland's natural environment, and is known for its purity and smooth taste.

History[edit | edit source]

William Grant & Sons, a Scottish company, introduced Reyka in 2005. The distillery is located in the town of Borgarnes, situated on the west coast of Iceland. The location was chosen due to its proximity to the natural resources used in the production of the vodka.

Production[edit | edit source]

Reyka is made from Arctic spring water and barley. The water is naturally filtered through a 4,000-year-old lava field, which contributes to the vodka's purity. The barley is sourced locally and is sustainable and GMO-free.

The distillation process uses a Carter-Head still, one of the few in existence. This type of still allows for a high level of purification, resulting in a smooth and clean vodka. The distillery is powered by geothermal energy from nearby hot springs, making the production process sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Taste and Serving[edit | edit source]

Reyka has a smooth and clean taste with a hint of vanilla and white pepper. It is often served neat or used as a base in various cocktail recipes. Due to its purity, it is also suitable for people with gluten intolerance.

Awards and Recognition[edit | edit source]

Reyka has received numerous awards for its quality and taste. In 2011, it was awarded the Vodka Trophy at the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC). It has also been recognized by the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the Beverage Testing Institute.
