Rhodostemonodaphne species are evergreen trees or shrubs. They are characterized by their red flowers, which give the genus its name (Rhodostemonodaphne means "red stamen tree" in Greek). The leaves are simple, alternate, and lack stipules. The flowers are unisexual and the plants are dioecious, meaning that individual plants bear only male or female flowers.

Distribution and habitat[edit | edit source]

Rhodostemonodaphne species are found in the tropical rainforests of South America, particularly in Brazil, Colombia, and Peru. They prefer humid, lowland environments and are often found near rivers and streams.

Uses[edit | edit source]

The wood of Rhodostemonodaphne trees is often used in local construction and for making furniture. Some species have also been used in traditional medicine, although more research is needed to confirm their medicinal properties.

Conservation[edit | edit source]

Many species of Rhodostemonodaphne are threatened by deforestation and habitat loss. Conservation efforts are needed to protect these unique and beautiful trees.
