Ribes aureum, also known as golden currant, is a species of flowering plant in the gooseberry family, Grossulariaceae. It is native to Canada, most of the United States and northern Mexico.

The Ribes aureum is a deciduous shrub growing to 2.5 meters tall. The leaves are palmately lobed, 2-7 cm long and broad. The flowers are produced in early spring at the same time as the leaves emerge, on racemes of 5-15 flowers. The fruit is an edible berry, yellow to black in color.

Ribes aureum is found in a variety of habitats, from moist mountain forests to dry grasslands. It is often found along streams and in riparian areas.

Cultivation[edit | edit source]

Ribes aureum is cultivated as an ornamental plant for its brightly colored flowers and for its fruit, which is used in jams and jellies. It is also used in native plant gardens and natural landscaping.
